Happy New Year to everyone who celebrate the Lunar New Year!
This year is the year of the buffalo in Vietnam or Year of the Ox in China! Each year is designated a zodiac animal. Last year was the year of the rat. There are 12 animals in total. Learn more about the Vietnamese zodiac animals here.
Normally, today we would be visiting my parents in Brooklyn to eat all the delicious food that my mom cooked, watch some TV, and then hand out red envelopes for the kids. It’s a fun time for everyone!
This year, because of Covid-19, we will be talking to my parents through Facetime. Not the same since the kids don’t really talk too much and there is that lack of physical contact that is so warm and cuddly during the holidays! But we will do our best to celebrate Tết at home!
I’ve never celebrated Tết (the Vietnamese New Year celebration) without my parents before so I’ll try my best to create something similar with the kids at home. We are going to make some lanterns, eat some wonderful food (egg rolls are always on the menu in this house), hand out some red envelopes and do some coloring. If you need some Lunar New Year coloring pages, here are 5 for you. One of the pages has the saying, “Happy New Year” in Vietnamese.

THE COLORING PAGES
SUPPLIES AND INSTRUCTIONS
Printer
copy paper or White cardstock
You can print these out onto copy paper if you’re using crayons or color pencils. I recommend printing on heavier cardstock paper if you’re using markers or watercolor so that it doesn’t bleed through your paper.
Sit down with your kids and have fun coloring!
