Happy Saturday!

It’s a beautiful day here in lovely NYC. It’s in the 50’s. No bulky coat today.

You know what else happened today? My 3 year-old son actually wanted to stay with his grandma overnight! OVERNIGHT! The kid who would cry every time I leave him at daycare. The one that would cry whenever I go to the bathroom! You know what else is amazing? He actually said to me “I stay with grandma. You go. I won’t cry! Good Bye!” So we left him…at Grandma! I hope you make it through the night, mom! Thank you for giving us a day off in 1.5 years!

Even before this happened, I had a plan on what my post would be about today: how to make mini buntings using free paint color samples from the paint or home improvement store. I wanted to layer them in back of my “Treat Yo Self” banner that I made using my Silhouette Cameo. Who knew that it would be so fitting for what happened today.

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Cut a semi-circle out of your paint swatches. The Sprout swatch sample is a 5×5 square so you can get two semi-circles.How to make buntings from free paint swatch samples from your paint or home improvement stores.shabbymintchicparty.com
  2. Cut little strips at the bottom of the semi-circle to make little frills. How to make buntings from free paint swatch samples from your paint or home improvement stores.shabbymintchicparty.com
  3. Make two holes at the corners at the top of the semi-circles. How to make buntings from free paint swatch samples from your paint or home improvement stores.
  4. Thread yarn or twine through the semi-circle bunting.
  5. Do the same thing with the triangle bunting or any other shapes you want. Go crazy!

I made the “Treat Yo Self” using my lovely Silhouette Cameo. You can just cut out your letters by hand, punch holes. Pull string through twine.

I treated myself today by buying that ultra cute cactus (the only plant that will survive in my HOT apartment) and eating all of those mini donuts!

How are you treating yourself this weekend?

How to use Shutterfly Free Photo Prints and Book for Your Party

Shutterfly is always doing some kind of free promo or discounts for their products. You can get 101 free photos, free photo book, free calendar, free magnet, etc. You normally will get something for free just for joining Shutterfly. Currently they are offering 50 free prints, a free magnet and free set of address labels.

I have used them for 7 years now all for FREE.  I have used them for my wedding, Mother’s day, Chase’s 1st birthday, Father’s Day, and other various occasions. Only paid for shipping cost. You can too!

Here are some ways you can use these free photos and books to decorate every party theme you have in mind. Shutterfly’s promotions happen sporadically throughout the year so sign up for updates.

  • Photo Banner. All you need is a ribbon or twine, clothespins and the photo prints. You can add lace, fabric, or tassel to make the photos pop out!

Use Shutterfly Free Photos to make banner for parties or home.

  • Photo Centerpieces. Put a photo inside a mason jar or in my case, a spaghetti jar (Yes, I collect all kind of jars). I soak the jar in hot water, then scrub to remove the labels. Add little accessories (flowers, baby pins, pacifier, etc). You can also add a number to use as table number.Shutterfly free photo for party decorations
  • Table Numbers. Frame your prints. Use craft paper or fabric to make numbers.
  • Guest book. Use these as guest book for your wedding with your engagement pictures or birthday party with baby pictures. I’ve made alphabet and family books for my son’s 1st birthday. He still loves them two years later.

  • Recipe Swap Book. Have guests send you pictures of their delicious dishes with recipes. At the party have guests sign the book.
  • Photo State map. Cut the photos into states or countries that you’ve traveled to as a couple for a cool travel-themed wedding or couple shower. I would do a little tutorial, but Kelsie Ann at Cut, Craft, Create does a much better job. Use photos to create States you've traveled to for engagement or wedding party.

Shutterfly sometimes also offer free photo mug, calendar, and magnets. These all make wonderful gifts.

Even without these free promotion, you can always find discounts! Be sure to search around the Internet for discount code. Shutterfly will also list their promotions on their website under special offers.  I literally just took a quick look and there’s one for Unlimited free 4×6 and 4×4 prints if you download their app. How cool is that?!!!

How would you decorate your party with free Shutterfly photos and books? I would love to see them!

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut the felt into a heart in the size that you want. If you don’t remember how they teach you to do it in elementary school, you fold the felt in half and cut out just half the heart. When you unfold the felt, you got yourself a WHOLE heart!  And if you’re still unsure, click on this link for different size hearts! Cut out the shape from the paper. Line it up with your felt and cut out!
  2. Use the Scor-Pal tape to stick it the knee or elbow. This tape really holds well, but it will not permanently stick so you can change it to another patch shape if you like in the future. If you want it permanently on, I would use fabric clue.
  3. Voila! Done!

If you want the patch to be a little more fancy, you can hand-stitch around the heart in different color thread. Mine are taped so I can use other patches for different occasions.Ridiculously Easiest No-sew Heart Patch for Valentine's Day Pants!
