Throwing a Winter Kids’ Party: Tips and Tricks

Throwing a Winter Kids’ Party: Tips and Tricks

Throwing a kid’s party in the middle of winter can be a fun and memorable experience for both the children and the adults. Here are some detailed tips for planning a successful winter party for kids:

6 tips for throwing a fun kids party in Winter

1. Choose a warm and cozy location

The key to a successful winter kids’ party is ensuring warm and comfortable children. Consider renting a space with a fireplace or a community center with a large room that can be heated. If renting a space is impossible, you can also consider hosting the party at your home. Make sure to have enough space for the children to move around and play games. You can also set up different stations or activity areas for the kids to enjoy.

Why not have a backyard firepit party if you love a winter outdoor party? Find out everything you need to make it an awesome and cozy great time for everyone in this fire pit party post.

2. Plan indoor activities

With the colder weather outside, plan activities that can be done indoors, such as arts and crafts, games, and a movie marathon. For arts and crafts, you can set up a station where kids can decorate their own winter-themed ornaments or make a snowflake garland.

For games, you can organize a scavenger hunt, a winter-themed version of musical chairs, or a snowball-tossing competition. You can also hire a clown or magician to entertain the kids. Here are some more fun winter party games.

Bingo is a great game to entertain kids during a winter party. You can find some great Bingo games on Teachers Pay Teachers. Yes, Teachers Pay Teachers!

4. Serve warm food and drinks

Kids love hot cocoa, warm apple cider, and hot soup. You can also serve warm pizzas, sandwiches, and other comfort foods to keep the kids warm and satisfied. If possible, you can also have a hot chocolate bar where kids can add their own toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream, and chocolate chips.

For Valentine’s Day parties, why not try making these delicious and fun Conversation Hearts Cocoa Bombs? Kids will be amazed by the reaction they get when they drink them!

5. Dress up the party space

Use winter-themed decorations such as snowflakes, icicles, and Christmas lights to create a festive atmosphere. You can also use balloons and streamers in winter colors such as blue and silver. If you have a backyard, you can also consider setting up a winter wonderland with a small snowman, fake snow, and colored lights.

6. Have fun

Remember that the most important thing is for the kids to have a good time. So, don’t stress about perfection; have fun and let the kids enjoy the party! You can also consider sending the kids home with a small goodie bag or warm blanket as souvenirs.

How to use Shutterfly Free Photo Prints and Book for Your Party

{*This post contains affiliate links}

Shutterfly is always doing some kind of free promo or discounts for its products. You can get 101 free photos, free photo books, free calendars, free magnets, etc. You normally will get something for free just for joining Shutterfly

I have used them for 7 years now all for FREE.  I have used them for my wedding, Mother’s day, Chase’s 1st birthday, Father’s Day, and other various occasions. Only pay for the shipping cost. You can too!

Here are some ways you can use these free photos and books to decorate every party theme you have in mind. Shutterfly’s promotions happen sporadically throughout the year so sign up for updates.

  • Photo Banner. All you need is a ribbon or twine, clothespins, and photo prints. You can add lace, fabric, or tassel to make the photos pop out!
Use Shutterfly Free Photos to make banner for parties or home.
  • Photo Centerpieces. Put a photo inside a mason jar or in my case, a spaghetti jar (Yes, I collect all kinds of jars). I soak the jar in hot water, then scrub to remove the labels. Add little accessories (flowers, baby pins, pacifier, etc). You can also add a number to use as a table number.Shutterfly free photo for party decorations
  • Table Numbers. Frame your prints. Use craft paper or fabric to make numbers.
  • Guest book. Use it as a guest book for your wedding with your engagement pictures or a birthday party with baby pictures. I’ve made alphabet and family books for my son’s 1st birthday. He still loves them two years later.

  • Recipe Swap Book. Have guests send you pictures of their delicious dishes with recipes. At the party have guests sign the book.
  • Photo State map. Cut the photos into states or countries that you’ve traveled to as a couple for a cool travel-themed wedding or couple shower. I would do a little tutorial, but Kelsie Ann at Cut, Craft, Create does a much better job.
Use photos to create States you've traveled to for engagement or wedding party.

Shutterfly sometimes also offer free photo mug, calendar, and magnets. These all make wonderful gifts.

Even without these free promotions, you can always find discounts! Be sure to search around the Internet for discount codes. Shutterfly will also list its promotions on its website.

How would you decorate your party with free Shutterfly photos and books? I would love to see them!
